NOUNS
The words used to name people, animals, places, things or qualities are called nouns.
There are four different kinds of nouns:
• Common nouns are general words used to name people, animals, places or things that belong to a category or group. e.g. elephant, door, boy, car, girl, river, day.
• Proper nouns are used to name a particular person, animal, place or thing, and always begin with a capital letter. E.g. Susan, Andrew, Wednesday, London, Spain.
• Collective nouns are used to name a collection or group of similar people, animals or things. e.g. bunch, flock, crowd, herd, galaxy, park.
• Abstract nouns are used to name qualities and emotions. e.g. beauty, hope, speed, fear, truth, courage, independence.
