In English some letters or combinations of letters are written
but not pronounced . They are silent

Silent g or gh

neighbour foreigner sovereign

silent b
The letter b is not pronounced at the end of a word after the letter m

bomb comb tomb crumb dumb limb climb
lamb thumb

Note also : debt doubt plumber

Silent k
The letter k is not pronounced at the beginning of a word
before the letter n

knee kneel knelt knife knight knell
knowledge knob knot knock know

Silent w

The letter w is not pronounced at the beginning
of a word before the letter r

wrestle write wrong wrist wrinkle wreck
